About PhotoMail

Starting on June 12th,, 2006 SuperLetter.Com Inc. began providing the trial of a “Hybrid Mail System” for Her Majesty’s Prison Service. The service is called Pris-m (www.pris-m.com ). Designed by SuperLetter in conjunction with  HMPS input and requirements, Pris-m is a two way mail service enabling prisoners to communicate with Family and Friends via a unique system integrating high speed page fed scanners with server based hybrid mail .

Because prisoners do not have access to PC’s and the Internet, only handwritten letters can be sent to their family and friends. Special letter composition forms are provided to the prisoners enabling the handwritten letters from the prisoners to be scanned by Fujitsu Page Fed Duplex Scanners and then uploaded to the SuperLetter-m server.

These forms allow the prisoner to send the letter to a Postal Address or an e-mail address.
In the case of Postal Addresses the prisoner hand writes both his prison address and the recipient address in the designated location on the form. When the letter is downloaded and printed the addresses are pre-positioned on the folded and sealed letter and postage is affixed and the letter is sent for delivery by Royal Mail.

If the prisoner opts to send the letter to an e-mail address, the e-mail address is handwritten in the address field. The form is then scanned and uploaded to the Pris-m server. Once received on the server Customer Care agents are able to preview the recipient e-mail addresses (but not the letter content) and transcribe the address. The letter is then sent as an e-mail attachment to the recipient.

Family and friends can write back to the prisoners utilizing the Pris-m web site. Letters composed on the Pris-m site are uploaded to the SuperLetter server and stored in directories for downloading by the designated Institution and they are then printed and folded within the prison for final delivery to the individual prisoners.
